Victorious festival 2022 - Review

Victorious is always a staple of the festival scene here at Voice FM. Running for a number of years now on Southsea common having moved from its original home in the historic dockyard. It's now a sizeable event with over 120,000 people in attendance over the weekend and draws a crowd from around the UK and internationally!

Friday night saw the likes of Bombay Bicycle club and Primal scream play the Common stage. With a great headline set from Stereophonics - special mention of course goes to Kelly Jones and his ukelele! An unexpected but pleasant surprise!

Saturday rolled around so quickly and so did the sun! A perfect day of festival weather - thankfully we remembered to pack sun cream! Warm and sunny and lots of happy people!

The special guests this year were the Sugarbabes at 1pm on the Common stage. Victorious have got into the swing of having a special guest on the Saturday afternoon and it's always an announcement I look forward to each year!

A particular shout out goes to Bastille! A band who we have supported on Voice FM for a number of years and who Simon has been trying to track down for an interview for even longer! The guys provided a fantastic headline set on the castle stage, including classics such as Pompeii and things we lost. It's worth noting, for future reference... I'll be taking a note out of Bastilles book and will no longer be performing anywhere without a chaise longue on stage! I can also confirm, they are some of the loveliest guys to sit and speak to! Simon's interview will be out on Wednesdays drive time show!

Sunday! The final day of the festival and the day a lot of people have been looking forward to the most! This day has been sold out for quite some time, and we all know the big pull for a lot of people. Sam Fender! Sam and his band have only been going for 6 years, but they have absolutely rocketed into the top of the scene in the last year or so! The crowd was absolutely huge for his set and we couldn't actually see the end of the crowd from where we were stood! A fantastic performance, especially as he admitted to it only being his 3rd ever festival headline slot!

My other favourites of the Sunday had to be Editors and Nothing but thieves. Bands who although I was already a fan of, always bring such strong performances when you see them live! Special shout out also goes to the comedy tent! The tent has got much larger in size this year and in doing that bought in fantastic household names such as Katherine Ryan and Russel Kane! The comedy tent has gone from strength to strength over the last few years and I can't wait to see where they take it next!

Overall, a fantastic weekend on the seaside! Greats acts and lovely sunshine! The festival goes to three full days next year for the first time and in can't wait to see what they have in store for us!

Early bird tickets are already on sale for next year - victoriousfestival.co.uk
