Slam Dunk 2024 main stage

Slam Dunk 2024, this was my first time ever at Slam Dunk, and I was extremely excited.

Across May bank holiday weekend Slam Dunk takes place in Leeds and Hatfield, I went to Hatfield. So many people complained about that the line up this year, saying it wasn't as strong as previous but I would argue that as we saw a huge amount of bands of which all of them were incredible from Rory to YMAS's last festival set 💔

First impressions I loved the lay out of the site, every stage was close enough so you could quickly get between to maximise the amount of bands you saw. However the only one criticism with this was maybe the smaller stages were a little too close as there was some sound cross over between acts.

Now onto the main events, the bands! Head Automatica just started as we arrived, and I have to admit they are a band I haven't ever really checked out (and just know that one song, you know the one, the one they end all sets with) but they were really enjoyable and definitely will be checking out some more of their stuff.

Some of the other bands we managed to check out where Rory, Funeral for a Friend with Lucas from Holding Absence and The Ghost Inside. I did love the range of bands, from the lighter side of things through to the likes of The Ghost Inside. A band who I had heard a lot about but never listened to or seen were La Dispute, and I could spend hours on how good these were, possibly the best band of the day, and one of the best I've ever seen. If you ever see La Dispute on a line up and your there, go and see them!

One of the main pulls of the festivals for my wife was I Prevail they are one of her favourite bands, and I'd never seen them live. They put on a monster of a show, with a stacked set list, these guys dominated.

Then it all came to an end with You Me At Six final festival set, I don't think I was ready for how emotional I was going to feel. They played all the hits I wanted to hear, even a debut with Josh's sister which was beautiful. Am I ready for YMAS to end, no, but I do think we need to start normailing bands retiring and not saying they're splitting up, after 20 years, they have more than done enough!

Having never being to Slam Dunk and hearing the horrors of the car park last year, we had no issues at all, out and on the road in 10 minutes. I will 100% be going back! Loved it!
