Limp Bizkit – Birmingham O2 Academy review

Updated: Apr 19, 2023

Well well well, where do I start! Limp Bizkit back on UK soil after far too many years. The last time I saw Bizkit was at Boomtown in 2018 when the roof collapsed on Wes’s rig ending their set!

This was my first time at the O2 Academy, and I’ve got to say its one of the better Academy’s I’ve visited, the sound was great and a pretty decent view all round.

So the night started with BLACKGOLD, a band who I’ve been seeing a lot of buzz on socials about but never seen them or checked them out. I was an immediate fan when I saw one of their t-shirts simply saying Make Nu-Metal Great Again, I mean who doesn’t love Nu-Metal? Its what I grew up on! I have to say these guys are definitely worth checking out if you get a chance a real classic Nu-metal vibe, they’re going to be at Download so if you’re going go see them!

Then the second act of the night were London’s ferocious Wargasm, these guys put on one hell of a show, giving it everything they had. They definitely didn’t waste this opportunity and certainly won over those who hadn’t seen them before.

Now its time for the main course! LIMP BIZKIT! Opening with Show me what you got was such a strong choice, this riff melts your face live and has a huge beat from John Otto so it’s a win win all round. Then we moved into Out of Style and Dirty Rotten Bizkit from their 2021 album Still Sucks. It was awesome to hear some of the new tracks live, as I know the album got mixed reviews so I was wondering how many of the tracks would make the set list, I’m so glad they did as they sounded great.

The rest of the set was a perfect mix of older tracks and the huge classics you wouldn’t want to miss. The cross over between Re-arrange and Boiler was impeccable.

We also got a taste of Behind Blue Eyes, which is a very marmite cover. What I mean by a taste was we only got until the second chorus and it pretty much was a karaoke version with just Fred singing to the backing. I wish we actually had the full version but there’s always next time!

Honestly this is one of the best times I’ve ever seen Bizkit live, Fred’s voice was flawless, the energy was great and the performance was epic.
